Day 36: Life after My Camino de Santiago

Updated: Mar 29, 2023

August 24, 2018

Believe it or not, I walked 16.91 miles just walking around Finisterre. I turned the Garmin watch on out of curiosity to determine how much I would actually walk today.

View of Finisterre

I changed hotels and met Astrid, Denise, and Angela for coffee shortly after noon. It was our time to say good-bye.

That was when I started exploring the peninsula. I met Jade and Christin for dinner and then started walking back up to the lighthouse. On my way there I recorded Episode 5 of ASK GORDON. I answered a question and discussed the disposition of the shoes. After all the miles I put on those shoes on the Camino de Santiago I felt the shoes should be left in Spain. But I kept the shoe laces. You will learn later about my plans for them.

Petra and me

I continued to the lighthouse in hopes of seeing a sunset. On my way there I saw Petra (see image) coming from the lighthouse. You may recall that Petra was one of the original members of the Fellowship. I hadn’t seen her in a long time and it means I have seen all of the members of the Fellowship that walked the entire distance from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port to Santiago de Compostela. Pretty cool.

I continued to the lighthouse in hopes for a spectacular sunset. Unfortunately, I didn’t get one. But I saw Jade and Christin again. I will see them tomorrow when we catch a bus to Santiago.

The photo you see is a photo of Finisterre and part of the bay. Finisterre is situated on the east side of the peninsula. I can easily get to the beach on the west side to the Atlantic Ocean, but I thought this vantage was the most picturesque. I think will agree with me when you see the remainder of my photos from today.

P.S. While in Finisterre I recorded the fifth episode of "ASK GORDON" after Day 36 (August 24, 2018) on the Camino de Santiago. This was originally shared in my Facebook Journal. I asked my Facebook friends to post any questions in the comment section of my original Facebook post. I copied the comments to the "Description section" in YouTube.

  20. This is me with Petra. You may recall that Petra was one of the original members of the Fellowship that left Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port on July 20th. I hadn't seen her in a couple of weeks so it was really nice to see her coming down from the lighthouse as I was walking up to the lighthouse again.
