I am posting the following image today since the book cover has been finalized. This is the image for the book when it is eventually published. And I love it!
For those who participated in my book cover surveys, thank you. The feedback from everyone was helpful and greatly appreciated. It helped me immensely. Thank you!!
The book cover design process proved to be quite interesting. I completed a survey so the publisher could get an idea of my preferred style. They then looked at all of my Facebook photos and also looked at some stock photos. They submitted ten possible book cover designs using seven of my photos and three stock photos. One cover used this basic image, another used my shadow, and the others were images of or from the Camino de Santiago trail. My top three choices were images of the trail since I was already committed to the trail. I have included the ten initial designs below:
Based upon the feedback from my Facebook survey, Book Cover #3 and #4 were the top two choices. Most people called that "white" thing in #3 a "thought bubble" instead of the outline of a scallop shell. Therefore, modifications were requested and the following images were submitted by my publisher:
Based upon another Facebook survey, Book Cover version #3C was the overwhelming choice followed by version #4C. I, therefore, focused on making slight changes to version #3C and what you see at the top of this post is the FINAL version of the book cover for my upcoming book.
Again, it blows my mind that my top three choices initially were images of the trail. I even liked version #4C with the shadow more than I expected I would. But I do really love the FINAL book cover. Of course, that is me on the cover, but it could be anyone. And in my mind the reader and I are both looking toward to the ultimate destination of this journey. That is why I am glad the image has my back and not my face.
I hope you enjoy the book when it is eventually published. Buen Camino!
